20 people receiving treatment after eating poisoned meat in Kenya
Around 20 people have been admitted to hospital at Mukutani dispensary in Kenya’s Baringo Central sub-country, after consuming what is suspected to be infected beef, according to Kenya’s The Star.
It was reported that the residents living at Mukutani trading centre slaughtered and ate the cow on Sunday. The victims were admitted after complaining about upset stomachs and headaches on Sunday evening, said The Star.
A witness claimed that, as a result of there not being any butchery businesses in the area, there were no experts or public health officers on hand to check whether or not the food was safe for consumption.
However, the area chief did report that the patients were out of danger, although some were incoherent. Should this persist, they will be admitted for further treatment at Marigat Sub-District Hospital and Baringo County Referral Hospital.
