From May 10 to 13 a total of 1,244 exhibitors presented products in Munich including a number of world premieres to some 35,000 visitors.
Increase from abroad
Susanne Grodl told FoodQualityNews that there was a considerable increase in the share of exhibitors and visitors from abroad.
“We have an international share of visitors of 40% and for the last show it was 35% and on the exhibitor side it is the same situation. So we also have an increase to 44% of the exhibitors who come from abroad which is a sign that Analytica is the main brand you have to go to,” she said.
Analytica exhibitor statements
Prof Dr Markus Fischer, director Hamburg School of Food Science, said: “The latest methods and techniques in food analysis make it possible to conduct analyses that are more in depth and accurate than ever. Not only do trade visitors find the latest products at analytica, they also experience them in actual applications in the Live Labs. Manufacturers and laboratory experts can discuss situation-specific challenges and potential solutions at the fair, which makes this format ideal and unique.”
“What is very important for the visitors is we are not only a fair where you show your products, we have a supporting program that focusses on the laboratory users and this program gives you such a value.
“We have special shows for laboratory safety, where you can see the live lab and see the devices working in action and this is something the users are interested in worldwide and it is a USP that Analytica provides.”
Countries with the largest contingents of visitors were Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain and the US. There were also significant increases in visitors from Great Britain, Iran, Thailand and Turkey.
Besides Germany, the countries with the largest contingents of exhibitors were China, the US and Great Britain.
Grodl said the numbers were up across the board.
“The exhibitor numbers increased compared to the last show of 6.5% and come from 40 countries, the most from China, US and Great Britain,” she said.
“If you look at the US market we have a good increase because there are so many US companies which are interested in Analytica to cover the European market.”
Food safety aspect
Grodl said food safety and quality control in the industry is a hot topic for all its shows.
“For the Munich shows it is a hot topic, we had a scandal a few years ago when the end consumers realised there was horse meat in lasagne where nobody expected it.
“The people who eat the food are very critical they want to know from what region the honey comes from, is it German honey or honey imported from China and we have the same situation in China, a couple of years ago there was a big scandal with milk for babies.”
When asked about the country specific pavilions, Grodl said: “We have a long history for the UK pavilion, we are working together with GAMBICA.
“We also have a pavilion from Korea and three from China which is because we also run a show in Shanghai so the brand Analytica is well known in the Chinese market. If a Chinese manufacturer wanted to expand their market to Europe it is Analytica they have to go to.”
GAMBICA is the trade association for Instrumentation, Control, Automation and Laboratory Technology in the UK.
Siegbert Holtermüller, chairman of the technical advisory board for Analytica and managing director at Olympus, said: “The industry needs analytica to present its innovations to an international audience and discuss ongoing developments.”
Analytica China is every two years with the next show from 10-12 October 2016 with 690 exhibitors and 80,000 visitors in three halls.
The show in India is annual with the next edition from October 20-22 with 230 exhibitors, 7,000 visitors and three halls. The smallest show is in Vietnam with around 100 exhibitors and 3,500 visitors from one hall but is growing. The next one is March 29-31, 2017.
Grodl said the future schedule is to stay as, when and where they are.
“We are in very close contact with all the manufacturers and they advise us not to change the cycle because they say the cycle for innovations in Germany or in Europe is two years so we follow this suggestion.
“This year Analytica Munich was the platform for world premieres, the big brands like Agilent, Analytik Jena and Olympus, they showed their latest innovations and new products at the show.”
The next Analytica will be in Munich from April 10 to 13, 2018.
