Bon Bon Buddies (BBB) will produce the brand’s first seasonal Easter offering for 2017 and 2018.
It will be a chocolate Easter egg sold at independent stores and supermarkets across the UK.
Licensing partner: Bon Bon Buddies
BBB already produces a series of children’s confectionery brands under licensing deals with brands such as Nintendo and Disney.
Most recently it expanded an ongoing partnership with Universal Studios by creating a candy range for the Summer movie 'The Secret Life of Pets'.
It also sells its own brands such as Nanobytes and the Bon Bon Buddies brand.
The firm has eight European sales and logistics facilities and has distribution in international markets such as China and UAE.
Cloetta and Chewits in the UK
Chewits was launched in 1965 and is owned by Scandinavian confectioner Cloetta.
In Cloetta’s second quarter results, published in July, it said UK sales were down due to a weak British pound after the Brexit referendum.
“Less than 5% of the Group’s sales come from the UK and the possible future impact of Brexit is therefore not expected to be material for Cloetta,” said Cloetta president and CEO David Nuutinen.
Cloetta expanded Chewits into new international markets last year, according to its last annual report. The brand is now sold in Denmark, Norway, Italy Finland, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, the Baltics as well as the UK, where Chewits was originally launched.
Cloetta produces the main Chewits line at its own factory in Levice, Slovakia. It also sells Chewits pick and mix, share bags and Chewits Xtreme Sour stickpacks.
