FoodQualityNews is getting ready to report live from several trade shows and conferences to delve deeper into the food safety and quality control picture in Europe.

Our first trip is to the “Challenges 2017: Prevention by Information” symposium hosted by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (Bundesamt für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit, BVL) and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Berlin 27 and 28 October.

The first part will provide a platform for representatives of consumer NGOs, government bodies and market research institutes to analyse and discuss possible preventive and information measures benefitting consumers.

The second bit will present early-warning systems in Germany and other Member States and the final section will highlight how findings of national food controls and those in international trade can be used to detect fraud and derive preventive measures.

Speakers include Matthias Wolfschmidt, foodwatch, Dr Hans Marvin, RIKILT, Dr Tobin Robinson, EFSA, Richard Stadler, Nestlé and Dr Andrew Morling, FSA, National Food Crime Unit.

We will move onto the EHEDG World Congress on Hygienic Engineering & Design on 2 and 3 November in Herning, Denmark. This event is run in conjunction with the FoodTech exhibition.

Andy Timperley of Timperley Consulting, Benedikt Henkel of Henkel, Hein Timmerman of Sealed Air Food Care, Matilda Freund and Dirk Nikoleiski of Mondelēz, Patrick Wouters from Cargill and Mikkel Nordkvist of Alfa Laval are among the presenters.

FoodTech, from 1-3 November, will have close to 300 exhibitors including ALcontrol Laboratories, Baumer, Bureau Veritas, Dansensor, DTU Food Hygienic Design Center, Ecolab, Food Diagnostics, Foss, GEA, Mettler Toledo, Multivac, Sick, Stable Micro Systems and Tetra Pak Danmark.

Our third trip will be to Amsterdam and the Rapid Methods Europe conference 7-9 November.

We are a media partner of RME2016, which is for scientists and technologists wishing to gain insight into microbiological and chemical analysis of food, feed and water.

Dr Rachel Glover, Fera Science, Dr Esther Kok, RIKILT Wageningen University & Research, Sylvie Van Loon, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Dr Marcia Armstrong, Qiagen, Dr Bert Popping, Mérieux NutriSciences, Peter Cockburn, The Scotch Whisky Research Institute and Dr Sara Stead, Waters will be presenting at the conference.

Stay tuned to all our coverage through the newsletter, via LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. However, this does mean there will be no recall round-up gallery for next week at least.

Finally, when we land back in the office we will be hosting the ‘Putting the Global Food Safety Industry Under the Microscope’ webinar on November 14 organised by Xtalks.

The 1-hour presentation by our editor is at 11am EDT (NA) / 4pm GMT (UK) / 5pm CET. Go here to register.
