In industry, chemicals are routinely used to sanitize and disinfect product contact surfaces and processing water.
These chemicals provide a necessary step to ensure that foods produced and consumed are not contaminated by from microorganisms that can cause foodborne illness.
While the chemicals are well designed and managed from a microbiological safety point of view, an understanding of related risks due to potential carry-over of their residues or from by-products is not fully available.
The group will develop guidance to standardise usage and composition of cleaning agents with regard to the carry over risks of undesirable chemical substances.
Fifteen positions are available (four retailers/food service, five manufacturers/suppliers, three service providers and three regulators) for 18 months.
Applicants must be employed by an organisation that agrees to sponsor their participation in the TWG and applications will be accepted until 1 September.
