Northland Laboratories has opened a laboratory in Mount Prospect, Illinois.

The 33,000 square foot facility houses microbiology, analytical chemistry, lab research, training, consulting and sensory space.

It offers the long-term future capacity of lab testing and research and integrates automation equipment used for scalability of testing.

“The laboratory testing facility brings the latest in laboratory design and layout, capitalizing on building efficiencies, controlling and containing the flow of the sample lifecycle, and has comprehensive environmental controls incorporated into the facility design with a focus on accuracy of testing,” said D.J. Alwattar, president of Northland Laboratories and chief marketing and sales offices of Matrix Sciences.

It is the second expansion of Northland Laboratories facilities in the past two years with growth of the Green Bay, Wisconsin site last year.

In April this year, Northland Laboratories joined Matrix Sciences as a founding portfolio company.

Robert Wiebe, CEO of Matrix Sciences, said the investment shows long-term commitment to customers and the food industry.

“The capacity and capability of this state-of-the-art facility support our continued growth in the Chicagoland area and are critical to our expansion. This is the first of many planned investments as we increase our scope of services and geographic reach.”
