Edwards has launched an air cooled dry vacuum pump range for scientific instruments.

The single phase pump is available in nXL110i and nXL200i optimised for LC-MS (liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry) and ICP-MS (inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry) duties and capable of handling gas loads of up to 25 slm.

It offers pumping speed options of 110 m3h-1 or 200 m3h-1 in the pressure range of 1 to 10 mbar.

The nXLi can also be used on chambers up to 100L, at continuous inlet pressures up to 15 mbar with occasional pump down.

The intelligent drive enables the system to achieve a performance from single phase power supply and operation from a 200 - 230 V (+/-10%) 50/60 Hz single phase supply.

Control options include manual, remote or serial communications control as standard.

The pump mechanism is non-contacting and oil-free with maximum up time and up to five years’ service life.

During the initial chamber pump down the transient overload protection allows a higher power draw for a short period of time enabling the pump to evacuate the chamber from atmospheric pressure to operating pressure.

This higher initial power boost enables the pump to overcome initial gas loads and once operating pressure is achieved, less power is required, said Edwards.

Dave Goodwin, senior product manager, high vacuum at Edwards, said: “We are excited to launch this new range, based on the Edwards iXL range of semiconductor dry pumps, they provide peace of mind with a proven track record of performance.”

Edwards has 4,000 employees worldwide and manufacturing sites in Europe, Asia and North America.
