The product will be available exclusively in Tesco starting April 16, 2018, according to Nestlé UK.
The announcement came after Barry Callebaut created the fourth chocolate category adding to milk, dark and white in September last year, ConfectioneryNews previously reported.
Barry Callebaut’s CEO, Antonine de Saint-Affrique, told us in China during the Ruby launch that the team developed the pink-colored and berry-flavored chocolate by isolating specific compounds in cocoa beans, yet it kept the detailed process a secret.
Popularity in Japan and South Korea
This is not Nestlé’s first time to use Ruby in its KitKat products. It first introduced KitKat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby in Japan at the beginning of 2018, and rolled out the product to South Korea shortly after.
“We are very pleased with the launch of our world’s first KitKat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby in Japan and Korea,” said a Nestlé spokesperson. “The products were sold out in our KitKat Chocolatory stores within 30 minutes every day for the first week after it was launched in January.
“To date, many consumers are also still visiting our stores to taste and purchase the new product.
“More than 50% of consumers who visited our KitKat Chocolatory Ginza store are foreign tourists, highlighting the popularity of KitKat worldwide.”
Nestlé said it also plans to bring KitKat Ruby to consumers across Europe and the Americas in the near future.
