Rappor Metrics targets meat processors to optimise supplier relationships

Rappor Metrics is set to use its benchmarking service to help global meat processors raise performance standards from their supply base.

Rappor Metrics, developed by GlobalMeatNews’ publisher William Reed Business Media, is providing this service to meat processors, inviting them to collaborate on a category basis with their key strategic suppliers in order to set up a structured 3-dimensional feedback system.

Rappor Metrics director Duncan Curtis told GlobalMeatNews that delivering supplier performance insight on areas such as raw materials, packaging, logistics, business services and equipment would help to improve supplier alignment and raise standards with meat firms.

This [feedback] would entail us to look at the different areas of service that suppliers provide to meat processors​,” said Curtis. “Meat companies would provide feedback in this structured approach back to their supplier base. Within the feedback, there would be around 30 key business metrics​.”

By facilitating feedback both ways, Rappor can help streamline supply chains by measuring which meat firms and which of their key suppliers deliver best practice, and helping them to prioritise where improvements can be made across a range of performance indicators.

Curtis added that a process called three-dimensional feedback could add “extra value​” for meat processors and was a different approach compared to the usual feedback methods meat firms received from their supply bases.

We’re giving an extra degree of visibility across the meat manufacturing base where we benchmark processors and their peers, and suppliers and their peers, and put the results into league tables​,” Curtis added.

In terms of elements such as structured feedback, you would be able to see where you sit in a league table, for example, for ‘supplier business planning’, and you would be able to see whether you are top, middle or bottom, as well as being able to see your peer group results​.

Based on this information, your suppliers would be motivated talk to you about how they can deliver a better service to improve their feedback scores and place in the league to be a ‘premium’ category supplier. This engenders conversations between the supplier and processor to focus their efforts on improving themselves​.”
