Serbian demand for animal feeds prompts De Heus acquisition
The acquisition will be De Heus’ second production location in Serbia, as it looks to tap the rising demand for high-quality cattle, poultry and pig feeds across the Balkan country.
De Heus will renew and equip the production lines at its latest Serbian plant in Cuprija, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
The move follows an extensive investment programme at its first site in Sabac, which it acquired from FSH Proteinka on 15 July 2015.
Following the purchase of the Sabac plant, the business modernised its production process and expanded capacity by 50%.
Darko Sadžak, general manager for De Heus Serbia, said the two plants would have a joint production capacity of 260,000 tonnes.
“In recent years we have invested a great deal of energy in improving our product quality. We are pleased that livestock farmers recognise the quality of our feeds,” said Sadzak. “To respond to the increased demand, we will also be further expanding the capacity of the plant in Sabac, together with the modernisation of the new plant.”
As well as Serbia, the business added that the Cuprija plant would enable the company to reach livestock farmers in other countries, such as Kosovo, Macedonia and Albania.
De Heus, which has over 5,000 employees across the world, exports concentrates and premixes to more than 70 countries, the main ones being in Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South America.
