The film is designed to make consumers aware of its “craftsmanship and sustainability” by showing how its meat products are produced at each stage of the supply chain.
It also shows how the traceability of a product is important to the business and how the company aims to address consumer needs for organic food. The initiative also explains how it uses EKO quality labels and Skal certificates to maintain its sustainability levels.
EKO is a Dutch label for organic agriculture. The label only applies to food products and has two variants: a quality mark for restaurants and a quality mark for sales outlets. Skal is an agency that audits businesses for certification for organic farming.
The video can be viewed from De Groene Weg’s 12 butcheries in the Netherlands, as well as Vion and the supply chain’s social media channels and website.
“De Groene Weg’s organic supply chain is continually developing. An example of this, in the field of sustainability, is the EKO code that was introduced by De Groene Weg last year,” said a Vion statement.
“All De Groene Weg pig farmers use this EKO code, providing substance to 12 theme areas within the EKO label. This ensures that the organic pork supply chain becomes even more sustainable, year after year. Good co-operation in the supply chain is of essential importance.”
