The chief executive officer of the Halal Food Authority (HFA), Saqib Mohammed, is to step down from the role.

He has decided to move on from the organisation to relocate to Dubai. As a result, the HFA board has announced the appointment of Dr Amir Masoom as its interim chief executive to lead the body, with a permanent appointment to be announced in March.

“Saqib has played an invaluable role in the development of HFA over the past 13 years and his commitment to improving the standard and quality of halal certification both here in the UK and abroad has been truly outstanding,” said the chair of trustees Dr Abdul Matin Khan. “We wish him well in his new role as operations director at a consultancy business involved in regulatory affairs in Dubai. We welcome Amir and wish him well in his post.”

Dr Masoom, who has been working as a senior technical auditor at the HFA since 2013, added: “I am looking forward to this new challenge and continuing to maintain HFA’s position as a leader in the field.”

Commenting on his time in the role, Saqib Mohammed said: “I am pleased to have led the HFA over recent years, and I thank the HFA board and the entire team for their efforts and support in collectively bringing the HFA to its current state of exemplary quality and prominence. Furthermore, I want to congratulate Dr Amir Masoom, and wish him all the best for the future”.
