TruNet has won one of the Queen's Awards for Enterprise for its Total Control Net system

Meat netting and twine producer TruNet has been honoured as one of the recipients of the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.

The business has been recognised for its excellence in innovation for its patented product, Total Control Net (TCN). TCN is the world’s only meat netting with a patented structure that combines a fixed calibre and an elasticated netting still separate but united as one.

Stuart Revill, managing director of The TruNet Group, said: “This is a very impressive achievement for TruNet. The award acknowledges the fact that TCN has been an industry game-changer, allowing customers to achieve a more consistent product at much higher speeds. The development of TCN has allowed TruNet to achieve fast-paced growth and establish itself as a global industry leader.”

The business, set up in 1880, produces more than 100 million metres of meat netting a year, and has sites in England, Poland, Vietnam and North America.

Priority

Speaking to Food Manufacture, Revill said that innovation was a priority for TruNet. “It’s something we’re always working on. It’s vital that we stay one step ahead of the competition and provide solutions for our customers. We’ll keep innovating and pushing things forward.”

He said winning one of the Queen’s Awards was the culmination of a seven-month process, which involved proving how the innovation had improved the business and wider industry. “This product has been a game-changer for the industry and allowed our customers to manage their products better and create new lines.”

Other recipients of the Queen’s Awards included Carrs Foods International and Company Shop Limited. John Marren, founder and chairman of Company Shop Group, said: “It is an absolute honour to receive our second Queen’s Award, which is reflective of our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our guiding principle of being a business which is a force for social good.

Dedication

“It is also a true testament to the hard-work and dedication of hundreds our colleagues across the business, who have helped to achieve so much, and to all our partners across the industry who enable us to generate such transformative social, economic and environmental impact every day.

“We look forward to continuing to maximise the impact of our work across the supply chain, keeping sustainability and brand integrity at the heart of our business, and supporting hard-working and low income families to stretch their budgets further.”

Global biotechnology business Biocatalysts was also given the Innovation award for its enzyme solutions.

The emblem can used by the businesses for the next five years.

The Queen’s Awards ceremony will take place later this year at Buckingham Palace, with company directors Stuart and Karen Revill attending while award will also be presented at the TruNet head office by one of The Queen’s representatives.
