Spanish exports to Vietnam on the rise
Pork exported from Spain to Vietnam grew 53.7% year-on-year in 2018, according to new figures from trade body Interporc.

In volume terms, it has exported 13,004 tons to Vietnam, which created a turnover of €11.2m, marking a 34% rise year-on-year, according to Datacomex research.

Vietnam is the fifth largest consumer of pigs in the world and the fifth Asian market in consumption per capita behind China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea

To help drive this forward even further, Interporc has organized a visit to Food & Hotel Vietnam to meet with Vietnamese importers and supermarkets interested in importing pork products for the Spanish pig companies present at the fair.

An Interporc statement said: “The Vietnamese pork market is a very interesting market for Spanish products, due to the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Vietnam; as well as the growing trend of consumption of this type of meat in the market, which is expected to have an annual rate of increase of more than 6%.”

Interporc recently unveiled a new pork welfare scheme that is designed to promote good animal welfare practices in the industry.
