Swiss dairy company Emmi has acquired Italian dessert company Pasticceria Quadrifoglio srl as part of its strategic growth in the sector.

The current Emmi Dessert Italia network consists of three production locations in Gattico, Pero and Lasnigo in northern Italy.  The integration of Pasticceria Quadrifoglio, located with two production sites near Modena, will further expand Emmi’s production and distribution capabilities.

Food service channel

Pasticceria Quadrifoglio is established in the Italian food retail and food service sectors. Emmi said it expects the acquisition to provide new impetus for its dessert network, especially in the catering sector.

Pasticceria Quadrifoglio is also involved in Italian ice cream (gelato). It was founded in 1978 by Claudio Canali, his wife, his sister and his brother-in-law. Together with their partner Franco Carzoli, they now have around 90 employees and posted net sales of €19m ($21m) in 2018.

Emmi said the Canali family will continue to play a leading role in operating activities. Synergies with the other “Emmi Dessert Italia” subsidiaries will be leveraged gradually.

The closing of the transaction is subject to the approval of the relevant competition authorities.

The purchase price was not disclosed.
