Avita hemp and veg sticks

Schne-Frost Ernst Schnetkamp is rolling out a new frozen plant-based SKU under its Avita brand: vegetable hemp sticks.

The line, which will launch in Germany, is gluten- and lactose-free. They are suitable for vegans and vegetarians and certified by ProVeg.

The sticks contain vegetables including chickpeas, corn, carrots, parsnips and peas. These are combined with 'full-bodied' hemp seeds. These are then coated in breadcrumb and deep-fried.

Hemp is a plant-based source of all the essential amino acids and the company said it is 'ideally suited' as a source of protein. The ingredient is also a source of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. The hemp and veg sticks are high in vitamins B1, B2 and E as well as calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron.

Like the rest of the Avita range, the new product does not contain flavour enhancers, preservatives or colours.

Mindful Bites' Christmas treats

Premium plant-based brand Mindful Bites, is launching a new seasonal cake, the Veganettone.

Named for Italian dessert the panettone – which contains butter and eggs – the vegan cake will be available at Whole Foods Market, Selfridges, Fenwick and Ocado.

With the launch, Mindful Bites said it brings ‘authenticity and traditions’ to the Christmas festive table - but with ‘more attention to the health of the planet’.

Stephanie Peritore, founder of Mindful Bites, commented: “We follow the very same Italian artisanal traditions, passed down from three generations. Patiently, we air our secular sourdough starter three times a day, every day of the year, and we let the dough rise four times over 72 hours.”

“Clearly we did change the original recipe and filled our Veganettone with our love for a better planet.”

The range includes three flavours: classic, chocolate and mixed berries. All flavours are available in 500g and 100g variants and a gifting box with all three varieties will also be launched.

The new flavour has been developed specifically to be paired with rum. The Tropical Soda was developed by the Fentimans Botanical Collective, a group of top bartenders from leading cocktail bars across Europe.

Fentimans noted data from CGA suggests that the rum category has grown by 37% in the last four years, driven by premium top-line golden and dark rum variants. The popularity of rum has increased amongst millennials with 80% now drinking the spirit on a regular basis.

The company launched the soda at the London Cocktail Week, 4th - 13th October.

French snack maker Nature Addicts! (NA!) celebrated its tenth birthday this week with the launch of a new gourmet fruit stick snack: Lemon with ginger extract.

The special edition joins NA’s line-up of six existing flavours.

The company, which describes itself as a ‘pioneer’ in snacking, said the new flavour combination was voted for by consumers through social media channels.

The fruit sticks are a good source of fibre, are free from added sugar and do not contain artificial preservatives or colours.

The company said its range was well-placed to cater to on-the-go demand as people increasingly adopt a ‘more nomadic way of life’.

Nivana's alcohol-free lager

Nirvana Brewery, the UK’s only bricks-and-mortar brewery dedicated to alcohol-free beer, is launching Bavarian Helles Lager.

With the launch of their Bavarian Helles Lager, Nirvana’s range of sub 0.5% ABV brews reaches 7 SKUs. The brewery also has big plans for future beers.

Nirvana’s Co-Founder, Becky Kean, commented: “I enjoy a good lager myself, but the mainstream  alcohol-free lagers really didn’t tickle my tastebuds. They’re often an afterthought to breweries’  portfolios, or simply a dealcoholised version of their existing alcoholic offering.

“The lager styles coming out of Germany tend to only have four natural ingredients, yet offer much more complex flavours and natural carbonation. That’s why we decided on a Bavarian Helles Lager as the perfect addition to our alcohol-free line up.”

Kean also hinted at more future options coming out: “The low-and-no alcohol beer market is growing all the time, and we’ve been at the forefront of it. The benefit of having our own brewery is that we’re always testing new things, improving our recipes and coming up with new ideas, so watch this space because we really have scope to do some innovative things.”

Nirvana’s Bavarian Helles Lager offering drinkers ‘pleasant biscuit notes’ from the malts, balanced with Hallertauer hops giving a ‘gentle nectar finish’. It has an ABV of 0.3%.
