UK specialist ingredients supplier Thew Arnott Group has finalized the sale of its food color business to German partner Extrachem for an undisclosed amount.

Bielefeld-based Extrachem GmbH has been a distributor of Horizon Specialities’ range of colors, dyes, pigments and lakes for several years.

Bringing Horizon onboard will further cement its footprint in the EU – and particularly Germany – in the food, feed, home and personal care markets.

The divestiture will enable Thew Arnott to focus on its core business of ingredients, which include lecithins, starches, coatings and polishes for the food and confectionery industries, as well as pharma and personal care sectors.

A recent innovation by Thew Arnott was the development of the Flo Zein range of corn protein films, which can be used to extend the shelf life of nuts like peanuts, roasted peanuts and walnuts, as well as dried fruit.

The vegan, gluten- and lactose-free coating acts as a moisture, oxygen, microbial and insect barrier, giving the snacks a better appearance, aroma and texture for longer.
