Held at a packed event in Hilton London Bankside, Pyne's of Somerset was crowned the overall winner, beating some stiff competition from around the UK.
Organised by Global Meat News’ sister brand Meat Trades Journal, the annual event celebrates the best of the UK’s butchery industry. As well as recognising regional champions, the competition also awards New Butchery Business, Online Butchery Business and Young Butcher of the Year.
Meat Trade Journal’s event director Sonia Young praised the finalists and winners. “The finalists and category winners displayed an extremely high standard, making judging for this year’s competition very difficult. Every single one of these businesses are at the very top of their game and are providing a fantastic service to their communities.”
“The overall winner, Pyne's of Somerset is more than a shop. As well as the extensive butchery the shop has a thriving takeaway serving nearly 1,000 that work on the nearby industrial estate. It also has a deli, fishmonger, and large food and drink section known locally as ‘the Harrods of Somerset.’ They are a very worthy winner of Butcher’s Shop of the Year and a great ambassador for the butchery industry.”
Greenfield Farm’s Braishfield Banger was also crowned Champion of Champions 2019.
Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2019 was sponsored by Butchers Sundries, Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales, Lucas Ingredients, Middleton Foods, Scobies Direct, Tican Chilled and Weddel Swift.
