K’s Wors unveils revamped pigs in blankets

UK-based company K’s Wors has released an updated version of the classic pigs in blankets festive treat using spicy traditional South African sausages called ‘boerewors’.

UK supermarket Ocado is offering three flavours of boerewors – Countrystyle, Chakalaka, and Chilli – in packs of 400g (RSP £5).

K’s Wors said that pigs in blankets, historically made with Cumberland sausages, were due a makeover. 

K’s Wors co-founder Dee Mapasure said: “I’ve felt for some while that boerewors could work wonderfully in conjunction with best-in-class bacon. For the last two years, boerewors have been building a head of steam during BBQ season. It was only ever going to be a matter of time before boerewors gate-crashed the Great British Winter.”

German potato specialist Pahmeyer has launched two new products: a potato casserole and broccoli & potato casserole.

The casseroles, made with potato slices combined with a creamy sauce and gratinated with fresh cheese, are delivered in a cardboard baking tray and heated in four minutes in the microwave or 14 minutes in the oven. The 300g products retail at €2.69.

Kellogg’s has launched an All-Bran Prebiotic range as the latest edition to the Kellogg’s ‘Happy Guts’ portfolio – backed by a £3 million campaign educating shoppers on the benefits of fibre.  

The new variants, All-Bran Original Prebiotic and All-Bran Almond and Pumpkin Seed Prebiotic, will hit UK shelves in January 2020. The cereal contains prebiotic fibre in the form of chicory root inulin which feeds the good bacteria in the gut. The two new flavours will be available in 380g packs, RRP £2.99.

Kellogg’s UKI brand activation manager, Florence Kayll, said: “With 26 per cent of UK consumers claiming to they eat less fibre than they should* it is really important we educate our shoppers to understand the importance of having fibre in their diets.

“Our All-Bran range contains almost 40 per cent of the recommended daily allowance of fibre (11g). This new food gives us an opportunity to grow this historic brand and keep Kellogg’s at the heart of the gut health trend.”

German food manufacturer Popp Feinkost is delivering organic versions of two of its most popular spreads: egg salad and chicken salad. 

For better orientation for consumers, the new organic range is in green packaging to distinguished itself from the conventional products in the usual red. The 135g tubs have a RRP of €1.59.

New Pringles Minis gives all the taste of the iconic Pringles crisp in a 30g bag, handy for on-the-go. Pringles Minis will initially be available in the two most popular Pringles flavours, Original and Sour Cream and Onion.

Commenting on the launch, Gianna Regonini, National Account Manager, Pringles, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer a Pringles pack and food format suitable for vending machines, so consumers can continue to enjoy Pringles when they are out of home”.

Pringles is the growth engine of the Chips & Snacks category in the UK and with a consumer target that over-indexes in out of home consumption, promises to extend this growth to vending. Pringles Minis will be available in vending machines across the UK from January 2020.

Pringles is also tapping into the ‘evening we’ snacks trend as it launches its January on-pack promotion to encourage shoppers to purchase multiple cans.

The ‘stacking’ promotion invites shoppers to place three different flavours of Pringles together to create unique combination. Consumers can then share their creations on social media to be in with a chance of winning prizes.  

The campaign looks to target the fastest growing snacks occasion ‘evening we.’ Shoppers who are looking for snacks between meal times or social get togethers.

The campaign will run in stores across all core Pringles flavours, including Sour Cream, Texas BBQ and Salt and Vinegar, and will be supported by social media.

UK Pringles activation lead, Helen Potter, said: “We know that taste and flavour are the main driver for the Pringles shopper, this activity taps into both those things. One of the suggested combinations is ‘the big burrito stack’ which consists of Original, Sour cream and onion and Texas BBQ sauce. With the opportunity to explore thousands of flavour combinations we believe it will drive shoppers to buy multiple cans in their shop.”

The on-pack promotion will be in available on the 200g cans, RRP: £2.50.  Prizes will be available every day.

Cambrook Foods’ luxury nuts gain Waitrose listing

Premium UK nut brand Cambrook Foods has gained a listing in Waitrose stores nationwide (RRP from £2.29) as part of a strategy to bring its range of artisan luxury nuts to the consumer via retail. To date the range has been available in top end hotels such as The Ritz, The Savoy and Claridge’s.   

The new range includes: Baked Truffle Nuts, Baked Umami Cashews, Hickory Smoke Seasoned Almonds & Cashews and Baked Lemon & Chilli Pistachios.

Cambrook said the nuts are seasoned with a range of unique spices and seasonings to create a taste experience that is both sophisticated and memorable. 

Founder Angus Cameron said: “The nut category was quite static without much innovation and we really wanted to change that and create something extraordinary.  We felt that it was the right time to put our years of experience and expertise to good use.  We were able to source the highest quality raw products from the best origins to create our unique range of tastes with our baking and seasoning know how.”

German manufacturer Bürger has brought out new vegetarian Maultaschen (a southern German variation on ravioli) flavours: lentil and carrot, goat’s cheese and mango, and beetroot and sweet potato. The 250g products (10 pieces of 25 g / bag) have a RRP of €2.69.

Bürger has also launched a chilli flavour, which are classic pork dumplings with a spicy chilli note, retailing at €1.49 for 300g (6 pieces of 50 g each / bag). The products will launch in February 2020.

Snack brand Sumno has introduced three flavours of Plantain Crisps in the UK. According to Sunmo, the crisps are 100% natural, hand-cooked, gluten-free and vegan-friendly. The flavours consist of Naturally Sweet, Sea Salt, Smoked Chilli and Sweet Cinnamon.

The company added it was aiming to tap into the increasing demand for healthier crisp alternatives among consumers. What’s more, each pack of Sunmo sold provides a meal for an orphaned child in Nigeria.

The crisps are on sale in Selfridges and Whole Foods Market (RRP: £1.89/45g).
