YMBA, the parent company of Remkes The Poultry Family, and the shareholders of Heijs Food Products in Hoogeveen, The Netherlands, have signed a letter of intent for an extensive cooperation.

Heijs Food Products specialises in filleting and further processing of raw poultry products which operates in the higher segment of the industrial, food service and quick service restaurants markets.

Heijs Food Products has approximately 200 employees and serves customers all over Europe including Sedex, M&S, KFC/Yum!, Asda, Sainsbury, Morrisons, BRC and HQC/HFA Halal.

Remkes has approximately 650 employees and processes about 20% of all broilers in the Netherlands. Remkes also owns the GPS slaughterhouse in Nunspeet, which Heijs Food Products has worked with in the past.

The various Remkes companies work closely together in a controlled chain with a focus on ‘from farm-to-fork’. However the owners felt that a specialised company such as HFP was missing from this chain. Both parties expect to finalise the transaction before the summer.

YMBA owner Bart Remkes said: “This acquisition fits in seamlessly with Remkes' strategy and ambitions and we look forward to building a bright shared future together with our suppliers and customers.”
