Coffee specialist and dairy alternative brand Minor Figures has announced the launch of what it claims is the UK’s first Barista Semi-Oat Milk.
According to the company, the new Semi Oat Milk plugs a gap in current retail offerings within this category.
It said: “As the first to bring a barista semi product to the market, Minor Figures aims to help consumers who are consciously seeking to reduce sugar intake while maintaining a plant-based diet, bridging the gap for those who want to enjoy great coffee without compromise.”

Minor Figures has secured listings across Amazon, Booths, Abel & Cole, Farmdrop, Waitrose and Holland & Barrett, in addition to growing its footprint in coffee shops to over 4,000 nationally.

Kerry Foods-owned UK alternative meat brand Naked Glory is expanding its range with two plant-based products: No-Beef Strips and Chick’n Burgers. The new products will be launching early January 2021 – just in time for Veganuary - to allow retailers to tap into those consumers looking to reduce their meat intake. Both Chick’n Burgers and No-Beef Strips will be available in Sainsbury’s stores, as well as online, with No-Beef Strips also available in Morrison’s stores.
David Hamilton, Chief Innovation Officer at Kerry said: “At Naked Glory, it’s not just enough for us to create a range of meat-free options, the most important thing is that they taste good too! For too long, meat alternatives haven’t been given the attention they deserve and those looking to moderate their meat consumption have been faced with flavourless food. We’ve taken on the challenge to create the meatiest thing since meat and have taken the time to make sure our No-Beef Strips and Chick’n Burgers taste exactly like their meat counterparts and are bursting with flavour.”

Keto-friendly cakes unveiled
No Guilt Bakes has launched a six-strong cake range in Planet Organic in response to what it calls growing demand for indulgent, keto-friendly treats.
No Guilt Bakes is the vision of cousins Taeya Abdel-Majeed and Maya Harruna, who wanted access to tasty cake time-outs that neither derailed their new ketogenic/low carb lifestyles or frustrated their natural sweet tooth tendencies.
Abdel-Majeed said: “Having sampled a number of the underwhelming, gritty offerings that existed online, we knew we had to turn our hands to baking, having experienced first-hand just how hard it is to give up sugar if there’s nothing worthwhile in delicious alternative ‘cake breaks’ to reassure us that we weren’t missing out.”
She said the latest cake data (Neilsen Dec 20) reaffirms that whilst big celebration cakes are in freefall owing to lockdown and the growth in home baking, there’s been a positive lipstick effect. “In times where there are reduction in big expenses and luxuries, consumer seek out small everyday affordable treats.”

High street food chains Leon and Pret have partnered with the UK meat alternative company Meatless Farm to expand their plant-based offerings, as they say 2021 looks set to be the year of ‘ecotarianism’.
Pret is launching a meatless version of its best-selling Swedish Meatball Hot Wrap. Pret’s updated classic will use plant-based meatballs, red tapenade, chipotle ketchup and topped with a sprinkling of crispy onions.
Meatless Farm’s bespoke meatballs use a range of plant proteins to create a meaty, succulent texture and taste. The Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap will be available from £4.25 and Pret is so confident in it that they are removing the traditional version for a month.
Leon’s LOVe burger will debut with an updated recipe featuring a specially developed, grilled and pea-based Meatless Farm patty between toasted sourdough burger buns and topped with LEON LOVe Burger Sauce, vegan Carolina mustard mayo, tomatoes, pickles and a slice of gouda-style vegan cheeze. The new wave soya free burger creates an even more meaty and smoky taste.
Morten Toft Bech, Meatless Farm’s founder, said: “The awareness of the impact intensively-farmed meat has on climate change is driving an increase in ‘ecotarians’ who eat in a way which minimises impact on the environment, and this is something that’s going to be an even keener focus in 2021 as climate change action dominates the global agenda.
“Consumers are increasingly demanding meat free choices when they are eating out or on the go as plant-based alternatives move from being a specialist option to top-of-menu with demand coming from meat-reducers and the carbon-conscious as much as traditional non-meat eaters.”

UK brand Tribal Sports Nutrition has recently gone live with a new listing in Sainsbury’s, with two energy smoothie SKUs (Morello Cherry & Baobab and Pineapple & Baobab). Early next year these two SKUs and two additional protein smoothies will also launch in Wholefoods.
“This is a fantastic win for Tribal, the tender process from 500 to 3 demonstrates our ability to stand out against competitors and gain shelf space,” said Chris Martin, Tribal’s founder and CEO. Whilst working as a photographer and filmmaker in Africa, Chris quickly realized that Baobab possessed the nutritional benefits that could shape the future of sports nutrition, offering a natural energy source packed full of electrolytes, fibre, vitamin C and antioxidants. Tribal Sports Nutrition was born.
Tribal’s active nutrition products deliver aim to deliver a ‘real food alternative’, providing the right nutrients for fuelling and recovering from exercise, whilst being light on the stomach, which will not leave you, or the world around you, feeling compromised.
Formulated to be ‘good for both you and the planet’, the organic and vegan smoothies use African baobab fruit, which is sustainably sourced from partner communities. A guaranteed price for Baobab supports livelihoods and protects the Baobab trees which are a vital part of savannah woodlands.
