The Pished Fish is releasing a Christmas selection box of booze-infused salmon for the festive season.

Each Christmas Collection box contains 1 x 200g The Sozzled Santa (brandy, clementine zest, demerara sugar, salt, nutmeg, and oat smoke), 1 x 200g Erik The Red (Aquavit, beetroot, star anise, juniper, apple and alder smoke), and 1 x 200g Classic (whisky, maple syrup and oat smoke).

“Whilst many applaud my team for their unrivalled ability to pair the noble salmon with an array of meticulously matched spirits and botanicals, it’s our purpose-built/rural-based smokehouse and an unflinching commitment to slow-curing (ensures a meatier texture) and gentle smoking (ensures we don’t overpower the fish) which enables us to avoid all the slimy/greasy textured salmon pitfalls that affects so many others,” said The Pished Fish founder James Eagle.

The Christmas Collection retails at £44.99 and is available from The Pished Fish online.

The ‘world’s first’ retail range of vegan prawn crackers is rolling out in the UK.

Made by Native Snacks, the new line comes in Original Prawn Flavour and Sweet Chilli.

At under 99kcal per serving, the vegan prawn crackers are made from tapioca starch, rapeseed oil, sugar, rice flour, salt and natural flavouring.

“We were shocked to hear that the farming of prawns produces more CO2 than beef per kg and contributes to the destruction of precious mangrove habitat. We wanted to create an easy like-for-like swap for such an iconic snack for vegans and non-vegans alike to enjoy,” said Native Snacks founders Charlie and Darcy.

“We loved eating prawn crackers as kids and no Friday Night Takeaway felt right without a bag. We always had some friends who couldn’t eat them due to being veggie or vegan. As well as creating something that tasted delicious, it also had to work from an ethical standpoint too. We knew from looking at the many vegan insta accounts that we follow - many who have posted about wanting to find a ‘prawn’ cracker - that the demand was there.”

A 60g packet is available at Asda for £1.79.

100% olive oil mayonnaise

Paleo- and keto-friendly start-up Hunter & Gather is launching the ‘UK’s first’ 100% olive oil mayonnaise.

Available in three flavours – Classic, Olive & Lemon, and Horseradish – the range is made from 100% light olive oil, British free range egg yolk, apple cider vinegar, and pink Himalayan salt.

“As pioneers of ‘clean’ condiments (sugar, grain & seed oil-free mayonnaise, dressings, and sauces), our new 100% Olive Oil mayonnaise is a natural move for us. Free-from inflammatory seed oils commonly found in other brands, ours is made with 100% light tasting Olive Oil from ancient groves in the Cordoba region of Spain, which are pressed in the traditional way, meaning absolutely no chemical hexanes or solvents are used,” said Amy Moring, co-founder of Hunter & Gather.

“The result is a product that’s pure, light and delicious, packed with healthful monosaturated fats and polyphenols, and with absolutely no added nasties.”

The new range is available via Hunter & Gather online (RRP £4.49 per 240g jar), with more stockists to follow.

Organic baby toddler food brand Piccolo is expanding its snacks range with a new Banana & Cocoa Oaty Bar and duo of Multigrain Puffs: Tomato Rings and Carrot Stars.

The new flavour Oaty Bars are vegan, gluten free, and free from added salt, sugar, and palm oil. Being high in fibre, with the addition of soft textured multi-grains and prebiotic fibre inulin, Piccolo says they support little ones’ digestive and gut health development.

The new duo of Multigrain Puffs contain 30% more fibre compared to other baby and toddler puff snacks on the market. The Carrot Stars offering is made with red lentils and contain 54% more protein than alternatives.

“It can be difficult for parents to find snacks that strike the right balance between having nutritional benefits and being convenient. We want to change that – so we make sure each of our snacking lines incorporate fibre-rich ingredients, which is really important to support their digestive systems, appetite and growth,” said Piccolo founder Cat Gazzoli.

The new bars are available in a 6 x 20g bar multipack (RRP £2.95) in Sainsbury’s and Ocado.

A single serve of Puffs has an RRP of £0.85 and are available in Ocado and Superdrug.

Cookies and plantain chips

Two new food brands have secured listings at Sainsbury’s: Wholey Moley cookies and We Love Purely plantain chips.

Wholey Moly’s ‘cookies with benefits’ are gluten-free, rich in fibre, vegan-friendly, and free from refined sugars and dairy. According to the brand, they contain 50% less sugar than traditional biscuits.

“We refute that a resolute commitment to healthier-living biscuits should ever mean dumbing down our commitment to amazing flavours and best-in-class ingredients.  That’s not to say we will ever become idle in our fantastical flavour commitments, because only earlier this month we added a sublime Pistachio & Lemon to our flavour swapped out cacao for chocolate in our other two flavours and fine-tuned every recipe to create 3 fuller, less crumbly/more soft-centred cookies,” said Wholey Moly founder Meenesh Mistry.

We Love Purely’s plantains chips are gluten-free, rich in fibre, HFSS compliant, and contain 30% less fat than traditional potato chips.

“Snacking is an integral element of the UK foodscape so the question was never one of dampening UK snacking appreciation but combining the very best World Cuisine/healthier eating principle domestically adored flavour profiles,” said We Love Purely founder Stef Pellegrino.

A 38g serve of Wholey Moly’s Pistachio & Lemon, and Chocolate Hazelnut biscuits has an RRP of £1.50.

A 75g sharing bag of We Love Purely’s Wild Garlic & Sea Salt plantain chips has an RRP of £2.
