UK-based Nush Foods is relaunching is dairy-free ‘cream cheese’, made from almond milk, in recyclable cups with snap-on lids. The environmentally sustainable packaging has been created by Greiner Packaging.
The spread first entered the market in 2018. The most recent packaging iteration is made from K3 cardboard-plastic, with an in-mould label.
The lightweight cup and snap-on lid are made from the same PP material, and the cardboard outer layer can be easily removed to enable recycling.
“Choosing the most sustainable packaging solution is part of our overall commitment and we chose to work with Greiner Packaging as they share our values and were able to offer an improved solution for our new look cheese spreads,” said Andrea Wiltshire, Met Foods Supply Chain Administrator.
“The process of developing the new packaging was straightforward and we feel that Greiner Packaging is involving us in their sustainability journey as they are also making us aware of upcoming improvements, including a potential move to using recycled PP for our dairy-free cream cheese cups.”

UK vegan cheese alternative company Violife is adding a vegan alternative to cream: Viocreme.
Described as ‘rich and creamy’, Viocreme can be cooked, baked, topped, and poured in the same way as dairy cream. The new product is made from seven ingredients, including coconut and rapeseed oils, lentil protein, natural flavour, maize starch, and beet sugar and rock salt.
“At Violife, we’re committed to continue innovating the Dairy Alternatives category and are thrilled to see our first cream alternative, Viocreme, hit the shelves. 100% vegan, Viocreme can be enjoyed by everyone and, as it largely emulates the properties of dairy cream, it is truly versatile.
“Joining Vioblock and Viospread, we’re excited to now offer a fuller dairy alternative range, beyond cheese alternatives, to flexitarians, vegans or vegetarians searching for plant-based dairy products that taste and act like the real thing,” said Violife senior marketing manager Bianca Harris.
Viocreme is available in Asda stores across the country from today (15 November) with an RRP of £1.50.
