Gut health food brand Bio&Me is rolling out a FODCAP-friendly and gluten free addition to its live of ‘gut-loving’ granolas.

The Seed & Nut Granola is made with 16 plant-based ingredients, including quinoa seeds, walnuts, bananas, jumbo oats and sunflower seeds. It is high in fibre and free from added sugar.

“I’ve created this novel granola in recognition of the fact that everyone’s gut is different. The evolution of personalised gut health products is a hugely exciting growth area for functional foods,” said Bio&Me founder Dr Megan Rossi.

“As a dietician and a scientist, it’s always been my mission to close the gap on great tasting food that also truly delivers on its health claims. This is what Bio&Me is all about and exactly what this launch does.”

The SKU is rolling out this month via an exclusive listing with Ocado with an RRP of £3.99 per 350g pack.

Hot Shot

A spicy caffeine-free pick-me-up is hitting shelves across the UK. MOJU’s ‘Hot Shot’, sold in a 60ml shot format, is made from mango, turmeric, ginger root, and a kick of cayenne pepper. It is a source of vitamin C.

The SKU follows on from MOJU’s original Ginger Shot. “MOJU’s Ginger Shot has set a new standard in the market; delivery hyper-convenient, fresh and functional nutrition to consumers when they need it most,” said MOJU co-founder Rich Goldsmith.

“The Hot Shot is an exciting addition to the range and has been formulated to not only support consumers’ immune health and vitality, but to bring the signature MOJU punch of flavour to more people – especially those who can’t handle the heat of the OG Ginger Shot.”

MOJU’s Hot Shot has an RRP of £1.95 per 60ml bottle and is available from Benugo and Planet Organic this month, before rolling out into Waitrose and Leon in March 2022.

BrewDog expands into soft drinks

Craft beer giant BrewDog is expanding into the soft drinks market with the launch of its P.O.P Soda line.

The range is made up of four flavours: Dark Cherry, Jagged Grapefruit, Citizen Cola, and Hazy Lemon.

One-hundred percent of profits from the P.O.P line (which stands for Planet Over Profit Soda) is going to climate change initiatives.

“Our mission has always been to rewrite outdated old world thinking with bold new world behaviours. So, just like we revolutionised craft beer with our Punk IPA, we want to do the same for the world of soft drinks.

“P.O.P Soda is more than just a pop drink. We’re giving everyone the chance to contribute to the fight against climate change by simply picking up a can of P.O.P Soda and collectively taking action to stop the climate crisis,” said BrewDog’s Brand & Marketing Director Lauren Carrol.

The new soda SKUs will be available exclusively in Tesco, as well as in BrewDog bars across the country and via the brewer’s website. A pack of six 330ml cans has an RRP of £4.

Italian food brand Crosta & Mollica is expanding into the dessert category with the launch of frozen Italian gelato truffles.

To be sold as Tartufi – which directly translates as ‘truffles’ – the line comprises of three SKUs. Each combines two gelato flavours, which are hand-rolled and coated in a layer of light dusting.

Each flavour – Caffè Latte, Chocolate & Hazelnut, and Pistachio & Almond – is available in Waitrose. Ocado is stocking the latter two SKUs. A box containing two Tartufi has an RRP of £5.

Charles Artisan Bread, a micro bakery in Hackney, is introducing its first jam product to shelves. Strawberry flavoured, the new jam is made from just three ingredients: strawberries, sugar, and citric acid.

The jam will sit alongside Charles Artisan Bread’s granola product, which was launched last year.

“We’re so excited to release our second product of the Charles’ shop, the Charles’ Strawberry Jam. Following the positive feedback we’ve received from our first product, the Charles’ Granola, we’re excited to continue to expand our in-house range,” said Daniel Burke, Director and Head Baker at Charles Artisan Bread.

“We want to continue in our mission to provide simply, honest, and no fuss products and freshly baked goods everyday.”

The jam is available for purchase in store or via Charles Artisan Bread’s website, with an RRP of £5.

Recipe box company Gousto has added a 10 minute ‘Pasta Pronto’ range to its offering, made up of 12 new recipes with fresh pasta.

Recipes include Butternut Squash & Sage Sauce with Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli; Pistachio Pesto and Tomato & Mozzarella Tortelloni; and Sausage, Leek & Fennel Sauce with Mushroom Tortellini.

“The fresh pasta category has seen a huge surge in popularity and accessibility, so we’re really excited to be bringing such a premium product to the Gousto menu. Our adventurous customers love cooking cuisines from around the world, and Italian dishes are always a firm favourite, making up a fifth of all weekly choices,” said Gousto’s VP of Food Proposition Kathryn Huxtable.

“Gousto’s 10-minute meals are speedy and hyper-convenience, without sacrificying on freshness and flavour. Pasta Pronto is about giving the much-loved, quick pasta plate an upgrade, with hand-rolled pasta and authentic flavour combinations with a Gousto twist.

Whole-cut mushroom-based meat alternatives have been developed by Bosque Foods (formerly Kinoko Labs).

Although not yet on the market, the new products were the focus on a recent tasting event at ProVeg Incubator in Berlin.

“Bosque Foods is moving forward at lightning speed. We have opened our new labs in New York and are looking for additional lab space in Germany,” said Isabella Iglesias-Musachio, founder and CEO of Bosque Foods.

“From the science and tech side, we have achieved proof of concept for our unique solid-state fermentation method, and developed our first prototypes which we are showcasing at exclusive tastings like this one.”

The start-up is currently developing a line of chicken and pork fillets, which they intend to sell a branded CPG products through supermarket retailers, and wholesale through food service establishments.
