Commercial launch decisions: Nestle’s novel infant formula lands in China following Hong Kong debut
Nestle has introduced new infant formulas containing a novel nutrient blend in China, after the product made its global debut in Hong Kong in July.
Launched under the brand WYETH S-26 Ultima, the product contains alpha-lipids, sphingomyelin, vitamin B12, DHA, iron, folic acid, and 2’-Fucosyllactose.
This specific nutrient blend, marketed as Nutrilearn Connect, has been clinically shown to increase myelin volume in the brain. Myelin is a lipid-rich sheath that insulates and protects nerve fibres crucial for cognitive and behavioural development.

Hong Kong-based probiotic specialist G-NiiB Geniebiome, winner of this year’s NutraIngredients-Asia Award Probiotic Product of the Year, said that its commercial success in its home base could be attributed to endorsement from the medical doctors, and it hopes to replicate the strategy elsewhere.
The firm won the award with its product G-NiiB Immunity Plus, a synbiotic formula containing probiotics from the Bifidobacterium strains, as well as the prebiotics galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS).
Launched in the thick of the pandemic, the product quickly became popular among medical doctors, especially the general practitioners and gastrointestinal specialists.

The next Manuka honey? NZ winner of NutraIngredients-Asia Start-up Award ready to go overseas with yacon product
The winner of NutraIngredients-Asia Awards 2022 Start-Up prize believes its flagship product – a prebiotic fructo-oligosaccharides juice extracted from yacon – could follow in the footsteps of Manuka Honey and become New Zealand’s next big exports success.
Founded in 2016, Yacon New Zealand’s products are built upon over two decades of research on yacon – a tuber plant indigenous to South America.
Yacon is naturally high in sugar content and the firm has sought to maximise the fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) level while minimising the sugar level in its product.
