“We’re delighted to announce the partnership between Nestlé Cereals and KitKat,” said Sarah Fordy, head of marketing at Cereal Partners UK & Ireland.

“This exciting new cereal delivers a delicious taste of KitKat and has been developed to cater to consumers who are looking for an occasional, indulgent breakfast option, that can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.”

Snacks major PepsiCo is trialling new packaging for its Walkers Baked product made from paper.

Having trialled the packaging on Walkers 22-bag and 24-bag multipacks last year, the company is rolling out its paper-based outer packaging across the Walkers Baked 6-bag multipacks.

In replacing the plastic outer wrapping with a completely recyclable paper-based alternative, PepsiCo says the development marks an industry first.

This latest trial sees the revamp of 300,000 multipacks of Walkers Baked Sea Salt and Cheese & Onion flavours with the new packaging, which will be sold into 800 Tesco stores across the UK.

“With this latest trial, people can buy a selection of Walkers Baked multipacks in paper-based outer packaging that can be easily and widely recycled with regular recycling at home,” said Walkers senior marketing manager Rachel Smith.

“Feedback is so important in helping us deliver the best possible experience for consumers, and we can’t wait to hear people’s thoughts when the packs land in stores.”

Quorn family-focused NPD

Mycoprotein major Quorn is celebrating British Pie Week with the launch of a Vegetarian Chicken & Leek Family Pie, which it claims is a first for the frozen meat-free category.

According to Gill Riley, managing director at Quorn Foods UK, there is an increased demand for meat-free family focused options. The company observed a gap in the market for frozen meat-free pies big enough to feed the whole family.

“There are no other products like this in the frozen aisle, giving retailers the perfect opportunity to drive incremental sales amongst meat reducers,” said Riley.

“We’re confident it will be a frequency driver for the category, generating appeal and excitement amongst existing shoppers by filling a gap in the frozen market.”

Quorn’s new offering is available from 26 March in Sainsbury’s stories in the UK at an RRP of £4 (680g).
