In ten days’ time, we’ll be gathering in central London for this year’s Positive Nutrition Summit: Healthy Innovation for the Mass Market. As we prepare to throw the spotlight on innovative approaches to healthier food and drink, here is a recap of our top six reasons to attend:

1. THE CONTENT, OF COURSE! FROM PLANT-BASED TO LIFECYCLE NUTRITION

Over the course of three days (29-31 March), we’ll run a dynamic content agenda that champions positive nutrition over five core themes.

We’ll explore reformulation approaches to a range of categories and examine how innovation is shaping the drinks of tomorrow, from collagen-infused water to alcohol-free beverages. Plant-based will also be put under the microscope as we ask how the next wave of meat- and dairy-free products will reinvigorate excitement in the sector.

The role of functional ingredients in boosting mental and physical wellbeing is another big topic in nutrition forward formulation, and one we’ll explore through the lens of food as medicine. How food and beverage makers are targeting specific age groups, from infants to ageing populations, will be examined as we ask how brands can better cater to age-related needs.

2. WORLD CLASS SPEAKERS…FROM AROUND THE WORLD

At Positive Nutrition 2023, FoodNavigator journalists will be joined by a host of experts, from dieticians and nutritional scientists to food entrepreneurs and big brands.

Highlights include Miguel Freitas, VP of Scientific Affairs at Danone North America, who will talk us through the links between diet, the microbiome and health. Rob Reames, VP Commercial at Planted will talk about the role of plant-based innovation in supporting positive nutrition as we address concerns that the category is swapping out one ultra-processed product with another, and Rakesh Sharma, R&D Director at PepsiCo will talk us through the role of innovation as the snacks-to-beverages major works to transition its portfolio towards healthier alternatives.

Lauren Woodley, Group Nutrition Leader at Nomad Foods will weigh in on affordability and convenient nutrition in frozen foods, while Hélène Hervé, Innovation Marketing Head at The Kraft Heinz Company will walk us through the company’s innovation strategy, centred around the humble bean.

Elsewhere, Katherine Appleton, Professor at Bournemouth University will talk us through the studies that informed the development of a new smartphone app for fruit and vegetable consumption, and Giancarlo Addario, Principal at Five Seasons Ventures will share how innovative food and beverage makers are tapping into the growing trend for Food as Medicine.

5.  GET INTERACTIVE

After two successful years as an online broadcast, we’re excited to transition Positive Nutrition into a physical event. To make the most of us all being in the same room, we’re making Positive Nutrition as interactive as possible.

A major highlight includes our interactive roundtable lunch session:  pick a table with a topic that interests you, and our expert moderators – made up of industry professionals, academics, non-for-profit representatives, and FoodNavigator journalists – will facilitate lively discussions. Looking forward to hearing your insights!

6. POSITIVE NUTRITION IS HERE TO STAY

And perhaps the most important reason to join us at Positive Nutrition 2023 is that nutrition forward food and drink is much more than a trend: it’s here to stay.

Cutting excess problem nutrients from food and beverage is clearly front-of-mind for manufacturers, but positive nutrition is much more than that. It’s not just about taking the ‘baddies’ out, but also about putting the ‘goodies’ in. We’ll cover both.

Come and learn how the latest nutritional science and technology can meet evolving consumer demands for food and drink at Positive Nutrition 2023.
