Mindful Chef partners with Deliciously Ella on new recipes

Nestlé-owned recipe box business Mindful Chef is partnering with Deliciously Ella founder Ella Mills for the second time, on this occasion to help customers recreate recipes from her new cookbook Healthy Made Simple.

Mindful Chef has selected four recipes that will be available for its customer-based to order from 21 January through to 3 February. Recipes include Mills’ Roasted Shallot & Butterbean Bowl, Chickpea Curry, Shortcut Lentil Bolognese, and One-Pan Peanut & Cauliflower Stew.

“I’m so excited to be partnering with Mindful Chef this January, introducing their customers to four of the recipes from my new cookbook, Healthy Made Simple. Since the day I started Deliciously Ella, my aim has always been to help people eat real food again, with more plants, for more people, more of the time,” commented Mills.

“I'm excited to show everyone how plant-based cooking can be easy and delicious, and by including these recipes in Mindful Chef boxes they’re made that little bit quicker and simpler with pre-portioned ingredients sent straight to your door.”

From Mindful Chef’s perspective, the business is ‘thrilled’ to be partnering with the Deliciously Ella founder for a second time. “Our shared passion for making plant-based eating easy and accessible has fuelled this and we very much support her ‘more plants for more people, more of the time' movement. Working together again was a no-brainer - taking recipes from her new cookbook Healthy Made Simple is a perfect way for people to dip their toe into plant-based eating... whether it be wanting to try vegan or simply reducing their meat intake.”

Baileys Chocolate has expanded its range to include Birthday Cake Truffles. The innovation comes from Irish chocolatier Lir Chocolates and offers consumers a ‘nostalgic vanilla birthday cake flavour’ and a hint of Baileys.

The Birthday Cake Truffles are encased in a white chocolate shell with a creamy vanilla truffle centre, infused with the flavour of Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur and the traditional vanilla birthday cake flavour.

“We recognise the importance of providing memorable and tasteful gift options, while meeting consumer demand for both quality and affordability. We hope the combination of two iconic flavours, Baileys and Birthday Cake, will make for a fun and exciting new option for shoppers on the hunt for the perfect token gift,” commented Alison Robson, Baileys Chocolate’s marketing manager.

The new truffles are available now from TK Max, B&M, The Range and Card Factory with an RRP of £4.

Infusions brand D’Amazonia has extended its reach with the launch of a Menopause tea product. The infusion is made from nine ingredients, including hibiscus, rosehip, passion flower leaf, and hawthorn.

According to D’Amazonia co-founder Marcela Tupinamba, the brand’s primary goal has always been to promote hot beverages that offer a mix of ‘lingering flavours, aromas, and deep-rooted, healthier living benefits’.

Statistics suggest that at any given moment, around 13 in the UK are either perimenopausal or menopausal, making up one-third of the female population.

“We started with a digestive brew, a healthy & wellness beverage and a superior sleep tea in 2021,” continued Tupinamba. “Therefore, it made perfect sense that our fourth recipe tackled yet another mass-market ailment.”

In the UK, customers have been asking ready meals brand Charlie Bigham’s to expand its vegetarian range. The company has responded with a new product – Four Cheese Macaroni – which is Charlie Bigham’s ‘veggie spin’ on its Macaroni Cheese and Crispy Smoked Bacon product.

The new recipe sees three extra cheese added, so that it now includes cheddar, Emmental, regato and mozzarella. The company describes the dish as ‘rich and creamy’ with a ‘crunchy cheese and parsley crumb’.

“It’s best served with a lightly dressed, fresh crunchy garden salad – making it a perfect mid-week dinner, of Friday night treat. It also partners perfectly with a cold glass of crisp white wine – we suggest a Sauvignon Blanc.

Charlie Bigham’s Four Cheese Macaroni is available from Waitrose with an RRP of £8.50.

Surreal cereal hits the mainstream
Surreal cereal hits the mainstream

Challenger cereal brand Surreal is celebrating its first national supermarket listing. From 28 January, three of the brand’s high protein cereal products – Cocoa, Frosted, and Cinnamon – will be available across 461 Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.

First launched in 2022, Surreal is bringing added plant protein to the breakfast aisle. Each serving contains a minimum of 12g of protein, has zero sugar, and is vegan friendly and gluten-free. Each SKU is high in fibre, and low in carbohydrates and calories.

“We started Surreal to shake up the cereal category – it hasn’t changed in 100 years…despite being the third biggest in food and drink. Tasty cereals are full of sugar and healthy ones taste like cardboard,” said co-founder Kit Gammell.

“We’ve taken the tasty cereals we loved as kids and remade them to be healthy for grown ups, without compromising on the flavour. The Sainsbury’s listing marks a really exciting next step and we can’t wait to see the range in store.”

A 240g pack of Surreal has an RRP of £4.95. The brand is also available in independents and is the ‘best-selling’ cereal brand in Holland & Barrett.
