The simple potato could help our memory, suggests new research from Canada. Researchers at the University of Toronto Bayview Centre for Geriatric Care found that dietary carbohydrates enhanced memory in a small group of healthy elderly people. br> Randall Kaplan, who led the research, and colleagues studied 10 men and 10 women, aged from 60 to 82. After four days of a controlled carbohydrate diet and a series of repeated memory tests Kaplan found"anywhere from a 10 to 30 per cent improvement in thepeople with the poor memories." This is a small study and more research is required to investigate the possible benefits of a carbohydrate rich diet on the brain.
