Canadian dairy producer PurNutra Inc., announced on Tuesday the launch of a line of all natural omega-3 / DHA enriched cheese. The product,under the OmegaSmart(TM) brand name, has been cleared by the FDA and is due to hit the U.S shelves this month. DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, is indicated in helping to reduce the risk of heart disease. In a statement Jim Stewart of PurNutra Inc said, "All our initial product production will be shipped to U.S. retailers under the OmegaSmart(TM) brand name with Canadian distribution to follow soon.'' Apart from the current OmegaSmart(TM) 8oz., 10lb., 40lb. and shredded cheese products, the company also plans to offer this year an expanded line of omega-3 /DHA enriched dairy products such as ice cream, yogurts and dairy spreads.
