Red Bull under investigation following deaths
by the Swedish National Food Administration, following the deaths
of at least three persons.
The highly successful energy drink Red Bull is under investigation by the Swedish National Food Administration, the UK Times newspaper reported on Friday. The Administration has issued a public warning advising people not to take Red Bull mixed with alcohol nor to drink it after exercise. The move follows the deaths of at least three healthy men and women, all of whom are believed to have drunk Red Bull just before they died, the paper continued. Anders Glynn, from the organisation's toxicology department and the head of the investigation, said that it would focus on the two main energy ingredients in Red Bull, caffeine and taurine, and the effects of combining the two ingredients with alcohol. Following the Swedish Administration's decision, Britain's Food Standards Agency(FSA) stated, "The FSA believes they {Red Bull} are as safe as any other drinks for adults to consume in moderation. Red Bull, in line with the Agency's recommendation, does carry a label informing people who may be sensitive to caffeine about its caffeine content." The Agency did stress however that should the Swedish investigation reveal new information the FSA will promptly review the situation.
