Research conducted at Harvard University and published in the January 2, 2002 issue of JAMA found that post-menopausal women not on hormone replacement therapy and who consume 4,333 or more IU of preformed vitamin A in their diets may be at a substantially increased risk for hip fractures. Based on study results, the researchers concluded that vitamin A levels in foods and supplements need to be reassessed.
