Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), a leading agricultural processor and supplier of food ingredients, marked its 100th anniversary at the IFT Annual Meeting and Food Expo taking place in Anaheim, California this week.
Following a cake-cutting ceremony, the company announced that it will start production of diacylglycerol (DAG) oil for North America, Europe, and other parts of the world. The oil, ADM claims, has been shown to help promote low levels of body fat and triglycerides in the bloodstream.
Derived from soy and canola oils, the ingredient, the result of a joint venture with Japan-based Kao Corporation, can be used like any other vegetable oil in a variety of applications, including baked goods, salad dressings, and sauces.
ADM began life as a small linseed crushing business in 1902. Today it has over 350 domestic and international plants with sales reaching $20.1 billion (€20bn) in 2001.
