Barry Callebaut buys out organic cocoa supplier Biolands
Biolands exports organic cocoa beans from Tanzania, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast and works with around 75,000 farmers.
Barry Callebaut has held a 49% stake in Biolands since 2008. It said that the acquisition was in line with the company’s sustainable cocoa initiatives and allowed it to be closer to farmers.
Through the deal, 143 full-time Biolands employees join the Barry Callebaut Group.
Biolands’ organic cocoa is certified Rainforest Alliance, UTZ Certified or both in its three operating countries.
