Cambridge Engineered Solutions' metal conveyor belts have been certified as halal.
The company’s metal conveyor belts are the only ones in the US to be certified acceptable for food products consumed by observant Muslims.

Cambridge Engineered Solutions has announced all of its metal conveyor belts have attained halal certification (meaning they are acceptable for use under Islamic dietary restrictions) by the Islamic Services of America (ISA).

The designation means food processing operations can use Cambridge conveyors in the production of food products for Muslims in markets around the world. The company uses all synthetic products in manufacturing its belts; conveyor manufacturers commonly use animal byproduct lubricants, including pork fat.

For the more than 1.5bn Muslims around the world, halal certification tells consumers the meat, poultry, baked goods and other foods they eat were prepared according to Islamic dietary guidelines,” Cambridge CEO Tracy Tyler said. “Unfortunately, most food processors don’t realize metal conveyor belts are traditionally manufactured with animal byproduct lubricants, most commonly pork fat, and therefore not permissible.”

Cambridge applied for the designation by the ISA. According to the organization, Cambridge currently is the only metal food conveyor belt maker to hold a halal certification by the group.
