Russian president Vladimir Putin has signed an executive order to destroy all imports of food brought into the country against the import bans from the West.

The import bans were part of the sanctions introduced in the wake of the Ukraine crisis.

The document states that any agricultural produce and raw materials produced in countries that have imposed or supported economic sanctions and are banned from Russia will be destroyed at the border. The measure was effective from yesterday (6 August, 2015).

Immediate seizure

The order specifies that all prohibited imports shall be subject to immediate seizure and destruction. But it does not apply to goods brought into the country for personal use.

The presidential executive order states: “Included on the list of agricultural products, raw materials and food, the country of origin of which is the United States of America, the countries of the European Union, Canada, Australia, and the Kingdom of Norway.”
