China and Europe increasingly working together on food safety – EFSA
Bernhard Url, EFSA’s executive director and Jiang Lu, CFSA’s acting director general, will sign the Memorandum of Cooperation in November in Beijing.
The agreement will set a legal basis to ensure cooperation in capacity building, exchange of knowledge and expertise and harmonisation and innovation in food safety risk assessment methods and approaches.
EFSA will also take part in the “China International Food Safety & Quality Conference + Expo 2016” and co-chair a seminar on November 3 about the future priorities in food safety.
Exhibitors include 3M, Neogen, Hygiena, Merck, DuPont, Merieux Nutrisciences and Romer Labs.
The event, organised by the European Commission and EFSA, will focus on future food safety challenges and implications for European and international risk assessors and managers.
EFSA will give insights into new guidance on applications for novel and traditional foods and efforts to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Leigh Verbois, director China Office, US Food and Drug Administration, Markus Lipp, head of the Secretariat of FAO/JECFA, Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN and Roland Solecki, head of department pesticide safety, German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) will also speak at the event.
