Suppliers seeking an edge in the fight to kill germs and boost shelf-life through packaging innovations can access a free online forum held on 23 March, featuring EU and US experts.

GlobalMeatNews’ Food Safety Forum: Powerful Packaging, sponsored by Avure Technologies and Fortress Technology, will run for one hour, from 11.30 Eastern Daylight Time. It will consist of three presentations by leaders in the field, followed by a live, 25-minute question-and-answer session.

Dr Claire Koelsch Sand, adjunct professor of packaging technology and research at Michigan State University and founder and owner of Packaging Technology & Research, will examine pathogenic threats and packaging solutions to tackle them.

Lynneric Potter, food packaging specialist at UK institute Campden BRI, will look at preventing, detecting and treating packaging leaks. Finally, Dr Errol Raghubeer, senior vice-president of microbiology and high pressure processing (HPP) science at Avure Technologies, will address HPP advances.

“Meat packaging problems can pose huge risks to consumers, prompting expensive product recalls that can profoundly damage companies’ reputations,” said Rod Addy, editor of GlobalMeatNews. “Thankfully, meat processors, packaging firms, retailers and researchers are collaborating on innovations that tackle these and other issues.

“In this online forum, we present some of the latest advances by the meat industry to combat microbiological threats and enhance product shelf-life.”
