Jimco to launch disinfection system that minimizes listeria and salmonella microorganisms
The company, based in Denmark has been developing and manufacturing air and water purification systems based on its patented UV-C technology using ultraviolet light since 1993.
EU Environmental Award
The technology has also received the EU Environmental Award and is used by the food industry, commercial kitchens, hospitals and supermarkets.
Jimmy Larsen, CEO, Jimco, told FoodProductionDaily, its ‘new weapon’ against Listeria the FLO-D Mini system will be presented at Anuga FoodTec 2015 in Cologne, Germany.
“FLO-D Mini is more mobile and suitable for use in refrigerated areas where there are often problems with yeast, mould and microorganisms,” he said.
“Manual disinfection is time-consuming, and it is almost impossible to get fully into places like corners. At the same time, harsh chemicals are used that are harmful to both the inside and outside environment.
“FLO-D and FLO-D Mini is totally automated. It can achieve more effective disinfection while saving manpower, water, chemicals and energy.”
University of Southern Denmark
Larsen said the technology came about after collaboration with the DHI water environment consultancy, the University of Southern Denmark and several food companies.
It can be used for automatic and chemical-free disinfection of surfaces and whole production areas.
“Prior to our 20th anniversary last year, Jimco took over the premises of a former radiator factory in Rudkoebing, Denmark,” said Larsen.
“The new headquarters cover a total area of over 5000 square metres, providing Jimco with plenty of room for further growth. I am preoccupied with deploying much of the extra space gained for producing our new disinfection systems.
“Right now it is all about food safety. Thanks to recent technological achievements food companies can effectively safeguard themselves against unfortunate bacteria cases, as long as they comply with general hygiene and cleaning standards.
“At the same time, the focus on issues like hygiene, odour emissions, indoor air quality and fire hazards is ever increasing. This is an immense opportunity for us.”
Larsen added the company is currently working on an Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) of Jimco surface disinfection technology.
“Once the verification process is completed, international sales of the FLO-D series are expected to skyrocket,” he said.
“We started to see an increase in sales after receiving the EU Environmental Award in 2000, not least to the overseas emerging markets. We now have distributors and resellers in Europe, North and South America, the Middle and Far East.”
