Anton Paar purchases Raman technology
The product line of two Raman spectrometers and one Raman microscope will form part of new product department at Anton Paar OptoTec in Seelze, Germany.
Benchtop spectrometers are known under the name Agility, the RamSpec benchtop spectrometers and the Nomadic Raman microscopes.
The firm said it ‘rounds-off’ the portfolio for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
Nils Bertram, general manager at Anton Paar OptoTec, said: “From both a business and a technological point of view, this purchase of products and technology represents a future-oriented step for Anton Paar in Seelze, Germany. We have now entered the field of molecular spectroscopy."
By determining the vibrational and rotational modes of molecules, Raman spectroscopy allows investigations into the structure, bonds and chemical characterization of gases, liquids, and solids.
Raman spectrometers are used to identify pharmaceutical agents or chemicals and detect toxic substances.
Anton Paar OptoTec has been a subsidiary of Anton Paar since 2007 and employs around 70 people.
Polarimeters, refractometers and sugar analysis systems are produced in Seelze and sold to the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, sugar industry, food and beverage producers, universities, research institutes and government laboratories.
The BaySpec products designed in Silicon Valley, USA, are in use for different fields of application.
They have multiple excitation lasers maximizing Raman signals while reducing fluorescence background.
