Biotage strengthens position in food safety market
Horizon is a provider of systems and consumables for separation in water purification, food safety, petrochemical, biofuels, agriculture and the pharmaceutical industry.
Biotage said the deal allows it to meet the global trend of increasing awareness and concern of environmental issues, pollution and toxics.
It will strengthen the firm’s position as a niche separations company within environmental applications and food safety - areas were Biotage has been ‘less well’ positioned.
Torben Jörgensen, CEO of Biotage, said the acquisition is in line with a strategy to grow its separation business through expansion into new application areas.
“This transaction enables Horizon’s existing products to reach a larger global market through Biotage’s direct sales channels, at the same time as Biotage’s existing products get access to customers in industries where Biotage historically has not been as active. We are very much looking forward to becoming a larger player in these important and growing markets."
Horizon Technology had 41 employees and sales of $8.2m in 2016. Main customers are governmental agencies, food and beverage and pharma as well as commercial labs.
Robert S. Johnson, co-founder and CEO of Horizon and Martha D. Johnson, co-founder and executive VP, said it has made advancements in automated sample preparation for 25 years.
